NATIONAL CIVILIAN
DEFENSE BRIEFING Independent Public-Preparedness Bulletin
FILE NO. NCD-7741-N SUBJECT: NUCLEAR FALLOUT DATE: 06 JUN 2026
DECLASSIFIED
SECTION 1.0 — WHAT YOU WEREN'T TOLD

The blast isn't what kills the most people. The air is.

You already saw the headlines. You already know a bomb is bad. What the bulletin below was written to tell you is the part nobody puts on the news: the danger doesn't end when the flash fades. It begins.

For up to 72 hours after a detonation, the wind carries microscopic radioactive particles — fallout — for thousands of miles from the impact. You cannot see it. You cannot smell it. You cannot taste it. Your eyes say the air is clean. Your nose says it's clean. Every system your body has says you're safe. Every one of them is wrong.

That's the old news. Here's the part that changed — and why this file is dated this month.

The threat board hasn't been this active since the Cold War.
SECTION 2.0 — CURRENT THREAT POSTURE

Four flashpoints. One clock. Read it yourself.

This is not a forecast for "someday." Independent monitoring bodies — the IAEA, the Federation of American Scientists, and the GAO — track these numbers in the open. We did nothing but put them in one place.

ACTORSTATUS — AS REPORTED
IRAN Enrichment advancing month over month — closer to weapons-grade capability than at any prior point on record.
RUSSIA Thousands of warheads in inventory; tactical nuclear weapons repositioned closer to its borders.
CHINA The fastest nuclear arsenal expansion of any nation since the Cold War.
NORTH KOREA Already nuclear-armed. Constitution amended to authorize automatic launch if its leader is killed.

[ FIGURE 1 ]
CLOCK FACE — 89 SECONDS TO MIDNIGHT
(insert hosted image or leave styled placeholder)

The scientists who keep the Doomsday Clock have set it to 89 seconds to midnight — the closest to catastrophe it has ever stood. The Department of Homeland Security calls a nuclear attack "one of the most serious threats facing the United States."

89 seconds. That's the official number. Not ours.
SECTION 3.0 — PROTECTIVE MEASURES: ASSESSMENT

The things most people are counting on. Graded.

Fallout particles are smaller than anything on this list was built to stop. Here is the honest assessment of what most households are relying on:

FAILDust mask — built for sawdust. Particles pass straight through.
FAILN95 — leaks at the edges and stops nothing your eyes need protected.
FAILWet towel — folklore. A damp cloth does not filter radiation.
FAILYour house — ordinary windows, doors and vents let the air right in.

Only one thing on the protective-measures register actually closes the gap: a full facial seal with a CBRN-rated filter — the same class of barrier the assessment was modeled against. Nothing airborne gets in. Nothing.

A wet towel is not a plan. See what closes the gap.
SECTION 4.0 — THE 72-HOUR WINDOW

The bomb takes ten seconds. The air takes three days.

Here is the problem nobody plans for: the most dangerous part of a nuclear event is also the longest. The blast is over in seconds. The fallout hangs in the air for up to three days. Three days of breathing — every breath a decision your lungs make for you.

And there will be nothing left to buy. The moment an alert goes out, shelves are stripped in hours and supply chains stop. The only protection that helps you is the protection you already own. Preparedness is not something you do during an event. It is the one thing you can only do before.

SECTION 5.0 — RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT

The barrier the assessment was modeled against — available to civilians.

Most CBRN-rated equipment never reaches the public. This one does. The Verva full-face gas mask is the consumer-available version of the full-seal protection the register above describes.

SECTION 6.0 — ASSESSMENT CLOSE // ANNEX

The bomb is the part everyone pictures. The flash, the noise, the thing you'd run from. But almost nobody runs from a nuclear event — they live in the days after it, in air that looks exactly like ordinary air.

Your eyes will tell you it's fine. Your nose will tell you it's fine. And for 72 hours you'll keep breathing on the word of senses that were never built to detect the one thing that matters. Every system you have says clean. Every one of them is wrong.

You can't buy a seal once the alert goes out. You can't filter the air with a towel. And nobody is going to hand you one in the hallway. The only version of this story where your family is breathing filtered air is the one where the mask was already in the closet.

// END BRIEFING. The only line that stays open is the one to the equipment file. //
